How to Trust God’s Design for Birth: Psalm 139
Pregnancy is wild, isn’t it? One moment, you’re in awe of what your body is doing—growing a whole human!—and the next, you’re wondering how in the world you’re actually going to get this baby out.
It’s so normal to have questions, doubts, and even some fear about birth. Even as a doula and mom of 3, I still had doubts, fears, and worries. But Psalm 139 reminds us of something so important:
“For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” – Psalm 139:13-14
This verse isn’t just about your baby—it’s about you too. God knit you together in a way that equips you for birth. Your body wasn’t an afterthought - You were literally made for this!
Your Body Was Designed for Pregnancy & Birth
When you really stop and think about the process of pregnancy and birth and how each part of the process aligns perfectly, it’s pretty mind-blowing. Your body knows exactly what to do at every stage, whether you’re paying attention to it or not.
✨ Your uterus expands perfectly to hold and protect your baby, then contracts at just the right time to bring them into the world.
✨ Your pelvis is flexible, shifting and opening as your baby moves down.
✨ Your hormones are perfectly timed, helping your cervix soften, your contractions build, and your baby get ready for life outside the womb.
✨ Oxytocin (the love hormone) strengthens contractions and helps you bond with your baby immediately after birth.
✨ Endorphins (natural pain relievers) rise as labor intensifies, helping you manage discomfort and stay present.
Every part of this process was built into you before you were even born! Whoa - crazy to think about huh?!

Overcoming Fear & Trusting God's Design
Even when we know our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made, fear can still creep in.
❔ What if labor is too intense?
❔ What if my body doesn’t work the way it should?
❔ What if I can’t handle the pain?
These thoughts are so common—but they don’t change the truth.
If God designed your body to grow, nourish, and carry your baby for months, why wouldn’t He also equip you for birth?
Instead of letting fear take over, try shifting your mindset:
✔ My body was made for birth.
✔ God is with me through every contraction.
✔ I am strong, capable, and fully equipped.
