Your Intuition Is Enough: Why You Should Stop Second-Guessing Your Decisions in Pregnancy, Postpartum, and Motherhood!

Motherhood comes with no shortage of decisions. From feeding choices and sleep schedules to how you handle tantrums or milestones, there’s always something to figure out and it’s always evolving. And with advice coming from all directions—family, friends, social media, even strangers—it’s easy to second-guess yourself.

But here’s the truth: your intuition is enough. God equipped you with a unique connection to your child and the wisdom to make decisions that are best for your family. You don’t need to have all the answers or follow someone else’s script. Let’s explore why your intuition matters and how you can start trusting it with confidence.

You Were Designed for This Role
The connection between a mother and her child is one of God’s most beautiful designs. Scripture reminds us of this truth in Psalm 139:13:
"For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb."

God didn’t just knit your baby together—He also knit together the bond you share. Your intuition is part of that design, an internal compass that guides you in understanding your child’s needs, even when it feels unclear.

When you second-guess yourself, remember that God chose you to be your child’s mother. He didn’t make a mistake. Lean into the confidence that He has equipped you for this role.

Why You Second-Guess Yourself
Second-guessing often stems from a few common fears:

🤔Fear of making the wrong choice: You want what’s best for your child, and the weight of that responsibility can feel overwhelming.
🤯Overwhelm from too much information: The constant flow of advice and opinions can make it hard to hear your own voice.
😩Comparison to others: Seeing how other moms parent can lead to doubt about your own approach.
These fears are valid, and we ALL experience them, but they don’t have to dictate your choices. By identifying what’s causing you to second-guess, you can start to replace doubt with trust in your intuition.

How to Tune Into Your Intuition
Tuning into your intuition doesn’t mean ignoring advice or acting impulsively—it’s about finding the balance between thoughtful decision-making and trusting your God-given instincts.

First, before anything else, silence the noise. To trust your intuition, you need to quiet the voices that lead to doubt. This might look like:

limiting time on social media where comparison runs rampant.

Politely setting boundaries with well-meaning but unsolicited advice.

Reminding yourself that no one knows your child better than you do.

Whenever you feel the urge to second-guess, pause and ask yourself: Does this align with my values and what I feel is right for my family?

Once you’ve silenced the outside noise take some time to:

1. Pause and Pray 🙏
When faced with a decision, take a moment to quiet the noise. Pray for clarity and guidance, asking God to reveal the best path forward.

Breath prayer to try:

Inhale: “Lord, guide my heart.”
Exhale: “I trust Your wisdom.”

2. Pay Attention to Your Gut Feeling 💭
Your intuition often speaks through your body—a sense of peace, unease, or a “nudge” in a certain direction. Pay attention to how you feel when considering different options.

3. Reflect on Past Decisions 🤔
Think about times when you trusted your instincts and it worked out. Use those moments as reminders that you are capable of making good choices for your family.

Faith and Intuition Work Together
Your intuition isn’t separate from your faith—it’s a gift from God that works in harmony with His wisdom. Trusting your intuition doesn’t mean relying solely on yourself; it means leaning on the guidance God has already placed within you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

When you submit your decisions to God, He partners with your intuition, helping you make choices rooted in love and discernment.

Trust Yourself, Mama
You don’t need to have all the answers or parent like anyone else. Your intuition is enough because it’s part of God’s unique design for you and your child.

So the next time doubt creeps in, remind yourself:

God chose you to be your child’s mother.
You’re equipped with everything you need to make wise and loving decisions.
Mistakes are part of learning, and God’s grace is more than enough to cover them.
Motherhood isn’t about getting everything right—it’s about showing up with love, faith, and trust in the process.

You are capable, equipped, and enough. Your intuition is a reflection of God’s wisdom and love at work in your life. Lean into it with confidence, and trust that He will guide you every step of the way.
