6 Daily Practices to Strengthen Your Mind & Body During Pregnancy and Motherhood
Simple Daily Practices
The holiday season is here, bringing its own mix of joy, celebration, and (let’s be honest) a little chaos! Whether you’re preparing for birth or balancing motherhood, it might feel like there is too much to handle right now. But here’s the thing: even during busy seasons, there are simple ways to stay grounded, find peace, and deepen your faith.
These daily practices aren’t about doing more, but about making the most of the moments you already have. Here are a few gentle ways to stay centered, connect with God, and experience a sense of calm, whether you’re preparing for birth or navigating the business of motherhood.
1. Start Your Day with a “Grounding Moment”
Starting the morning with a “grounding moment” is a wonderful way to invite God into your day and feel connected from the start. Before diving into your to-do list, take a few deep breaths, say a simple prayer, or set an intention.
“Seek first His kingdom and his rightousness, and all these things iwill be given to you.”
- Matthew 6:33
You might try:
Breathe and Set an Intention: As you breathe in, pray, “Lord, be with me today.” As you breathe out, release any tension or worry. This small pause helps you start the day with a sense of calm and spiritual connection.
2. Journal a Few Thoughts in the Morning or Evening
Journaling can be a powerful way to connect with your thoughts and faith. Taking a few minutes to write down what’s on your heart—hopes, worries, gratitude—can be grounding. Try adding a simple prayer or a line of scripture to your journaling practice, letting it serve as a gentle reminder that God is with you.
Consider prompts like:
“Today, I’m grateful for…”
“God, help me to trust You with…”
“I felt Your presence today when…”
These small reflections can help you feel more present and spiritually connected through each stage of pregnancy and motherhood
3. Choose a Scripture or Affirmation for the Season
Choosing a verse or affirmation for this season can serve as an anchor when you need encouragement. Look for something that speaks to you right now—whether it’s about strength, peace, or trust. You might write it on a sticky note or save it as your phone’s lock screen. Consider sharing a favorite verse or a simple prayer with your husband or kiddos.
For example: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) Holding onto these words can be a quick reminder of where your strength comes from, especially during the more challenging days. It can also help you to find joy in the every day moments.
5. Try a “Breath Prayer” When You Feel Overwhelmed
Pregnancy and motherhood both come with their share of emotions, and during a busy season, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. A “breath prayer” can help calm your mind and bring you back to center.
As you inhale, think, “Through your strength”
As you exhale, think, “I am enough”
Repeat this a few times, letting it calm your spirit and center your thoughts on God’s presence.
6. Move with Intention
Gentle movement can be a powerful way to feel more grounded, clear your mind, and reduce stress, especially during pregnancy and early motherhood. Whether it’s a few simple stretches, a short walk, a burst of cardio, or a strength training session, intentional movement helps you reconnect with your body, release tension, and recharge your energy. Moving with intention doesn’t have to be time-consuming—just a few minutes can make a big difference. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to care for your body and support your physical and mental well-being through all the changes and demands of this season.
Each of these small practices is a way to stay grounded and focused, even in the busyness of the season. Whether you’re preparing for birth, wrangling toddlers, running around teens, or somewhere in between, these habits can help you feel calm, present, and spiritually centered, no matter what the day brings.
